Winter term 2021/22

Workshop in successful language learning

This online course introduces students to six areas of psychology in foreign language learning:

  • learner self-concept and beliefs;
  • learning styles;
  • language learning anxiety;
  • language learning motivation;
  • learner autonomy and self-regulation; and
  • strategic language learning and strategy instruction.

The participants explore the basics of these topics and analyse their implications for foreign language teaching. The course is characterised by presentations, guided reading, self-reflection, pair and group discussions, and other activities that students complete in distance learning. The course instructor provides all required materials (e.g., texts, video clips) on a corresponding e-learning platform or via links to other websites. The participants’ achievements are continuously assessed throughout the semester. Additionally, a portfolio at the end of term contributes to the participants’ final grade.
